Butlin’s marks 90 years with dazzling Rhinestone Redcoat - and it could be yours

Butlin’s is celebrating 90 years as the Home of Entertainment with a spectacular tribute – a one-of-a-kind Rhinestone Redcoat hand-embellished with more than 32,000 sparkling gems.

The show-stopping jacket, unveiled at Butlin’s Skegness — the first of the brand’s resorts to open in 1936 — took three costume makers 91 hours to complete. It honours the iconic uniform that has defined generations of British family holidays.

Fully covered in rhinestones and featuring a bespoke anniversary Redcoat “R” made from 90 individual stones, the jacket pays tribute to nine decades of entertainment, personality and guest connection. Over 15,000 Redcoats have worn the famous uniform, a role known for rigorous training, personality, talent and top-class guest service.

Costume designer Tim Simpson, known for his work on The Masked Singer, said: “We wanted to honour the heritage of the Redcoat while dialling up the glamour. The 90-stone anniversary ‘R’ is a small but powerful detail celebrating this incredible milestone.”

Butlin’s Entertainment Director Mike Godolphin added: “Redcoats have been at the heart of the Butlin’s experience for 90 years. The Rhinestone Redcoat celebrates that legacy while showing how the role continues to evolve for a new generation.”

The unique jacket will be auctioned to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, supporting seriously ill children across the UK. The auction is now live and runs until April 30.
