Caistor centre closes but still a helping hand for hedgehogs

Lauri Fox, with the help of husband Mark, has run the Caistor Hedgehog Centre in North Street for the past nine years helping hundreds of animals along the way.

Now, health issues have forced Lauri to make the difficult decision to step back from her 24-hour care centre, something she says she will miss terribly.

Lauri said: “I am just not able to do it any longer.

“I will miss the babies being brought in; seeing them grow and develop their own personalities.

“Some of the hogs we have had in have been so ill and I will remember the look in their eyes that they won’t make it, but then they get through. That is a great feeling.

“I would like thank everyone who has supported us over the years - we couldn’t have done it without you.”

And Lauri had this message for everyone: “Keep looking out for the hogs.”

That is what she will be doing. In fact, three hogs will continue to live with her.

Lauri said: “One is Bob, who came to us in our second year.

“He is a house hog. He was left brain damaged and blind after being shot in the head.”

Lauri will continue to give talks and the Caistor Hedgehog Care Facebook page will remain in place to offer advice.

Hedgehogs are and always will be close to her heart and Lauri will continue to raise money for their care, supporting Charlie’s Hedgehog Care at Holton le Clay.

Lauri added: “I will still be here to take in any hogs if people can’t get them to Charlie’s themselves - a bit like a transit station.

“Charlie’s will also be supporting the Elsham Hall hedgehog village set up last year.”
