Caistor Cricket Club has launched a crowdfunder in a bid to raise £20,000 to replace its tired and worn 30-year-old practice nets.

Within hours of its launch, the funding page had passed the £5,000, which meant a further £8,000 was secured automatically from Sport England.

Reg Percival, Club President, said: “There has been a fantastic response and we thank everyone who has contributed so far, but there is still a way to go.

"These new nets will really help us train all the teams and welcome lots of new members next year.”

Caistor Cricket Club has been a well-loved part of the town for 130 years and has been playing on the current cricket field, in Brigg Road, since 1981.

The club has always had an active men's team and has developed its junior section over the years. Its aim is to make sport more accessible, creating both competitive and social sport opportunities.

Last year the club introduced a women's softball team and this year put out its first girl's team too.

Both teams have been hugely successful, with ages ranging from 11 to 70 years, with the emphasis placed on having a go and enjoying yourselves.

Tracey Good from Caistor Town Women's Cricket Club, said: “We really are a mixed group in many ways, but we are all very friendly.

"So many of the team have joined us to meet new people, learning to play cricket is a bonus.

The new practice net facility will enable the club to give the best opportunities they can to all of the cricketers to grow their skills and help each cricketer to develop at their own pace.

The crowdfunder will run until November 6 and, at the time of going to press, is standing at more than £14,000.

Reg added: "Every little helps, whether you can pledge £4, the price of a cup of coffee, or anything more, it all helps towards the total.

"You can also claim rewards with your pledges too, with vouchers, cakes or opportunities to name the new nets.”
