Caistor market success to be built on through new committee

Caistor’s Saturday market has proved more and more popular over the past few months, so the town council has agreed to set up a separate market committee.

Speaking at last week’s council meeting, Councillor Jayne Bowman said: “I think its really important that we have more of an organised group helping to direct the market so that we can help shape its future.

“The market is being relied upon and used quite extensively at the moment.

“We have a good set of regular stalls attending and we want to make sure we continue to keep them and grow further.”

Coun Steve Critten said: “It has worked really well over the last few months.

“With and without lockdown, we have done quite well with stalls.

“I just think that while the momentum’s there we ought to try and keep it going, at least up until the 2 to 4 [Market Place] is more developed and that will encourage the market place even further.

“I just think we need to keep that momentum going.”

Councillors Bowman and Critten are among the volunteers helping organise the markets over the past few months and agreed to be part of the new committee, alongside fellow councillors Michael Galligan and Stuart Davey.

Coun Bowman added: “We maybe need to start as a committee of councillors and then we can grow it into a working group with other people involved.

“I think that is really important.”
