When Mary Clarke, formerly of Eudo Road, Winthorpe, was born, King George V was on the throne, the Liberal leader David Lloyd George was Prime Minister, and The League of Nations (the forerunner to the United Nations) was a little over a month old.

To help mark her 100th birthday this year (which fell before the Government’s call for social distancing), a family party was held at Syne Hills Care Home where she is resident.

“Mary was all smiles at her party and enjoyed all the fuss that was going on around her,” a spokesman for the home said.

Mary’s family gave their thanks to the home for its ‘kindness and ongoing support’ to her.
