Millions of pounds will be raised across the nation on Friday (March 13) as some of the UK’s best-known sporting stars encourage the country to get active to help the needy and vulnerable worldwide. This year’s campaign is being fronted by Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill.

Three members of the Meridian fitness team, Laura Dalton, Sammy Noton and Matt Cartwright, have agreed to pitch their skills alongside the people of East Lindsey – challenging the most competitive fund-raisers to beat them at their favourite exercises. Those who are beginners or not as competitive, are encouraged to set their own challenges – trying to beat personal bests or try something for the very first time.

You can either donate, or be sponsored, to take part in the ‘Choose Your Challenge’ fund-raiser.

So, what are the challenges that will be done on Sport Relief Day?

Laura’s challenge: Laura’s at Meridian from 10am until 6pm that day and running is her thing.

She is wondering just how far you can all run on the treadmill in three minutes – Laura can make a distance of 0.78km.

“Can you match me or beat me?” she asks. “Or how about trying to just jog, run or walk as far as you can,” she adds.

If you want to run with Laura, she will be on the treadmill at 11.15am, otherwise just pop along – not forgetting to donate!

• Matt’s challenge: A press-up a second for one minute – yes, that’s 60 in 60! That’s what Matt is asking you to beat!

Or why not just do as many as you can? Matt will be doing his 60 in 60 at 2.30pm. Join him or do it any time on your own.

• Sammy’s challenge: Sammy will be there to welcome you from 7am until 3pm, with a real strength challenge.

She will be powering through when she ‘hip thrusts her own body weight for a minute’!

In practice she has managed a fantastic 32 reps of her own 60kg body weight! Sammy will be doing this at 11am, or try it in your own time.

Laura concluded: “We’re all going to be topping up on our training ourselves to make sure we are ready for the challenge, but on this occasion we don’t mind being beaten – it’s for a great cause.

“So, come along and choose your challenge, and remember you can do it for yourself too, not just to beat us!”

You can raise money for ‘Choose Your Challenge’ for Sport Relief by making a donation at reception at the Meridian Leisure Centre.

Alternatively, pick up a sponsor form from reception and follow the instructions on the sheet.
