Chapel St Leonards village hall to re-open a year after it closed

A village hall near Skegness which closed almost a year ago – is set to reopen in November following months of renovation work.

Chapel St Leonards Village Hall shut in November 2025 over an issue with the roof – which had rendered the building unusable.

The new committee behind the building says numerous other refurbishment works have taken place since then to bring the building up to modern standards.

Money for the work was raised through fundraising, grant money and a substantial donation from local business.

“We are pleased to announce we are working towards reopening the hall on Sunday, November 15,” a committee spokesperson said.

“Getting the hall ready has involved much more than replacing the roof. Several systems were outdated, and they have had to address electrical work, the fire alarm system and other essential facilities, making repairs, renewals and improvements to meet the standards required for reopening, but the preparations are now coming together.

“We continue to receive advice from professionals and relevant bodies about further improvements the hall needs. Reopening will be an important milestone, and the work to update and improve the building will continue afterwards, supported by donations from members of the public and local businesses, fundraising and grants.”

The reopening event, which runs from 2.30pm-6.30pm, will include an afternoon of ‘Northern Soul’ and ‘Motown’ music.

“After a closure of over twelve months, local residents are looking forward to being welcomed back,” the spokesperson added. “Our Committee members say ‘thank you’ to everyone who supported the village hall through donations, fundraising, practical help and encouragement. Your continued support will help us bring the hall up to the standard our community deserves."
