Every year since the 1980s, Walter 'Wally' Ernest Parnham donned his red suit and white beard to attend festive events.

And now it is the residents' turn to show their appreciation for all the joy he brought by dressing up in Santa costumes and lining the streets for when his funeral procession passes through the town.

Wally's funeral procession to Alford Crematorium takes place on Thursday, December 10, starting at 12.15pm.

From Winchester Road, it will travel along Magdalen Road, turning right on to the High Street, and then up to the level crossing. It will then turn down Silver Street and past the college.

Then it will turn onto the Market Square and back down the High Street to travel to Alford for the funeral service at 1pm.

It has been suggested that as the procession will be travelling twice along the High Street , this will be the best place to line the street.
