CORONAVIRUS: Boston primary school shuts completely for two weeks as five cases now confirmed

Hawthorn Tree Primary had initially sent its reception bubble home for two weeks after one case was confirmed at the beginning of last week.

But four more cases came to light during the week, and the headteacher told parents last week he was closing the school for two weeks.

The closure will finish as half term starts, which means pupils will not now return until Monday 2 November.

As of Friday, there were 43 schools and colleges across the county with current confirmed coronavirus cases.

These include Boston High School, Haven High and Boston College as well as Hawthorn Tree.

The Boston College case did not require any other students to isolate, as it was an adult learner who had not been in contact with other students during his infectious period.

Andy Fox, consultant in public health for the county, said on Friday: "As of this morning, Lincolnshire's Health Protection Team is currently working with 43 schools that have had confirmed cases of coronavirus.

“All schools are taking action to limit the potential spread of the virus, with some pupils and staff self-isolating as a precaution where necessary."
