The primary function will be to provide an essential shopping and prescribed medication collection and delivery service to vulnerable and isolated residents in both communities.

Ward district councillor Craig Leyland said: “We are hopeful that a leaflet will be delivered to all residents by Friday, March 27, explaining how the service will work with the service commencing on Monday, March 30.

“The threat of the virus is very real and we will be taking all precautions to protect our residents and volunteers.

“We will be following NHS guidance to protect all involved.

“We are also aware that residents using this service will need to feel safe in their homes.

“To achieve this, residents using the service will know when and by whom deliveries will be made.

“We know there are many Good Samaritans out there who are already doing this for their neighbours.

“This is fantastic to see. Not everyone is so fortunate and we want to add to this by hopefully providing a service to residents of all ages who are having difficulty coping with the realities of social isolation and who may not have access to friends and family for help.

“Please be patient while this is being set up.

“Both Coun Tom Kemp and I are fully supportive of this initiative.”

• More information will be on the leaflet.
