Couple retiring from Willoughton Post Office after 48 years

Due to age and ill health, Brian Ormand Moore, 80, and his wife Sue, closed the Willoughton Post Office branch to shield during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

However, they have now taken the decision to retire, due to the continuing risk of coronavirus.

Brian has been the postmaster of Willougton Post Office since July 1973, and he is a much loved figure in the tight-knit Lincolnshire community and always offering great customer service with a smile.

The post office in Templefield Rd, Willoughton, has been in Brian’s family for the last 80 years.

Brian’s grandfather ran nearby Kirton Lindsey branch, which he took over in the early 1900s, which was passed on to Brian’s uncle.

Brian’s father, Ormond Moore, took over Willoughton from a Mr Trevor in 1933, and lived above the Post Office.

When Ormond retired, Brian took over the branch, and him and his wife Sue, have lived on site since.

Joanne Fryatt, Post Office area manager, said: “Brian has given a fantastic service as Postmaster for Willoughton Post Office for the last 48 years, not just for his customers but for the community as a whole.

"A big thank you to Brian and Sue for all their years of service.”

Brian said: ‘I loved being a postmaster, the best part was interacting with and helping customers.

"As a postmaster you really are in the heart of the community.”

Customers can still access essential Post Office services from nearby branch, Kirton Lindsey.
