Couple who travelled world celebrate 75th wedding anniversary in Skegness

A couple who have travelled the world are celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary at home in Skegness.

Alan and Thelma Hallam were married in Nottingham on December 15 1948.

They have travelled the world but bought a caravan at Cottage Farm, Addlethorpe, to spend weekends and holidays when Alan was working at Wollaton park.

Before he retired he had numerous jobs working for British Rail and the Royal National Institute for the Blind.

Thelma spent many years as a machinist in the lace market in Nottingham.

Once retired, they bought a house on the Seacroft estate in Skegness and lived there ever since,

Alan lives a very active life, swimming every day and using the spa at Richmond Leisure Centre every day, Covid-19 permitting.

Until recently he also enjoyed playing bowls at Skegness Indoor and Outdoor,greens. and golf,

A Skegness Standard reader, he also enjoys shopping and fetches his copy of the newspaper every week.

Thelma's hobbies include cooking and cleaning, keeping an immaculate house,

The couple have also have spent a lot of time looking after friends who have become ill, taking them treats and goodies.

They will not be celebrating their anniversary this year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

However, they are being sent lots of love from daughters Carol and Christine, their husbands Tony and Dave and seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren..

Christine said: "We can't be with them this year but we know they will be really surprised and happy to see their anniversary in the Skegness Standard."

The couple have seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
