A dog rescuer in Metheringham is appealing for help to raise funds after vets bills left her with just £16 in the charity's bank account.

Sarah Gleave, owner of Last Chance Lincoln dog rescue (LCL), has set up a crowdfunding page to raise £2,000 to enable her to carry on the work she does operating as an emergency dog shelter.

“We are so desperately broke at the moment due to high vets bills,” she says on the Justgiving page.

Sarah set up the rescue centre last November, which she operates at the site of her boarding kennels in Metheringham Heath. She has room for up to six rescue dogs at any one time.

A couple of the dogs in her care have medical issues resulting in expensive and ongoing veterinary treatment - including Tilly the young Staffordshire bull terrier who suffered complications following a neutering operation, requiring secondary surgery and follow-up tests.

Another was rescued with ongoing problems with its legs - which were badly injured in a road accident.

Speaking to the Standard, Sarah said: “The last two months we have had vets bills of £700 to £800 which left us with £16 in the bank.

“We have some fundraising events planned for the near future but are really in need of help now.”

LCL is currently at capacity for rescue dogs.
