Destination video encourages people to stay home and save lives

It is the first in a series of marketing videos which will support tourism recovery over the next 12 months, whilst also reminding people that social distancing guidelines are still in place.

The video has been produced by Visit Lincoln and East Lindsey District Council with the support of the local NHS.

It is narrated by Lincolnshire actor Colin McFarlane.

Talking about the video, Charlotte Goy interim CEO said: “The tourism sector was the first industry to be hit, and among the hardest hit by coronavirus – and whilst we are now working on recovery and relaunching the sector we must continue to push the safety message of maintaining social distancing and being kind to one another.

“During the lockdown the Lincolnshire community has pulled together to make sure key workers were kept safe.

“We saw people going above and beyond to support each other and it’s important that we recognise this and champion the Lincolnshire spirit.

“As the next stage of easing the lockdown begins, we need to keep this Lincolnshire spirit going and work on a sensible plan to relaunch tourism in a considered and managed way which generates much needed revenue for businesses whilst not overwhelming local services.

“At Visit Lincoln we have done a lot of work over the past three months supporting tourism businesses whilst also working with the GLLEP, Lincolnshire County Council and the District Authorities on phased recovery planning.

“Being able to work with multi agency partners including Lincolnshire’s NHS on a collective message means we can bring the most important messages together, so they don’t become diluted or confusing.

“Looking ahead we need to tread carefully, but Lincolnshire’s historic city, rolling countryside and coastal offer will be in demand – and we need to work together to make sure we get the correct message out to everyone about the phased re-opening.”

Councillor Craig Leyland, East Lindsey District Council Leader, said: “I’m pleased to see so many partners supporting this campaign and the message to stay safe and save lives.

“Our priority continues to be limiting the impact that Coronavirus has on our communities and our vulnerable residents.

“You can help us do this by thinking of others and staying home as much as possible.

“I would ask that you please act responsibly, continue to social distance and stay safe.”

John Turner, Chief Executive of the NHS Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said “NHS staff and colleagues across Lincolnshire remain very dedicated to providing the best care they can in the current challenging circumstances, as they have done throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.

“We are very grateful for the support we see from our communities across Lincolnshire as they continue to respect government guidelines to keep our NHS staff, and other key workers, safe.

“Thank you to all for sharing this community spirit as we continue in our fight against Coronavirus”.
