Duo from Skegness cheerleading club raise hundreds for new equipment

East Coast Warriors has two new crash mats to its name thanks to the efforts of Lily Blades, nine, of Skegness, and Melissa Hull, 12, of Spilsby.
The club, formerly of Wainfleet, moved to its purpose-built home at Skegness’ A.E. Cook Business Park in August of last year. In March, however, it was forced to close due to the coronavirus.

Hide AdWhile it was able to return to socially distanced training in July, the pandemic has presented a funding challenge to the club, as head coach Emily Chapman explained.

“During this period, we would have normally had many fundraising opportunities to help support the club grow in purchasing additional equipment,” she said. “As we did not charge any fees during the lockdown, we didn’t think that we would be able to increase our equipment range.”
This proved not be to be the case, though, thanks to Lily and Melissa who through such events as raffles and a cake sale raised £566 for two additional crash mats – what Emily described as a ‘whopping’ sum as she paid tribute to their efforts.
