Estate blazing a trail with firewood quality and other Neighbourhood News

A country estate near Boston is blazing a trail as part of efforts to reduce air pollution.

The Government announced last week plans to ban the burning of ‘wet’ wood, coal, and high sulphur fuels as a heat source.

Bags of logs sold in DIY stores, garden centres, and petrol stations often contain wet wood, which produces more pollution and smoke.

However, Revesby Estate has been awarded national accreditation for the standard of its firewood.

The estate has become certified by the Woodsure’s ‘Ready to Burn’ scheme – the UK’s only quality assurance scheme for pre-packed woodfuel products.

The Government-backed initiative guarantees that logs sold as woodfuel meet quality standards based on the moisture levels of the logs, as well as the source and size of the wood.

Revesby completed a process of rigorous audits and, as a result, is one of only three suppliers in Lincolnshire to be awarded the ‘Ready to Burn’ status.
