But, before anyone starts contacting the police, it should be pointed out that the boy in question is...a stone statue.

He used to be in the front garden of Jean (née Sorfleet) Sergeant’s bungalow in Banovallum Gardens, Horncastle...until he went missing several years ago. “

Mrs Sergeant now lives in a Care Home in Woodhall Spa.

However, the family would love to re-unite her with the statue.

Family member Peter Sergeant said: “I would very much like to recover it to give to the care home where she now lives so that she can see it from the window of her room.

“Obviously, that’s not possible because we don’t know where it went, or who might have taken it.

“She (Jean) knitted some clothes for it which we still have and it would be nice to be able to remind her of that in her increasingly small world of memories.

“I know it is a long shot but I wonder if it might be possible for the Horncastle News to run a story with a photo of the statute so it might be returned to us,

“It is possible, of course, that it left the area not long after its disappearance but it might not have and might, therefore, be something that someone would recognise with a twinge of conscience.”
