More than 60 Rasen area sewing enthusiasts have joined hundreds across the country supplying NHS workers with scrubs.

As reported in last week’s Rasen Mail, Market Rasen Action Group (MRAG) has been supporting Lincoln Maternity Hospital with hats, ear protectors, toiletries and treats.

Now they have gone one step further and have a team of volunteers making full scrubs.

Last week, the project got underway, with Chrissie Jolliffe acting as co-ordinator after being approached by MRAG leader Julie Lambie.

Chrissie said: “Anyone who knows Julie knows she is very difficult to say no to, so when she asked me to help I had to say yes. It is a great project and I am happy to be involved.”

Last Thursday, things got underway with a cutting out session in the Festival Hall, led by Pat MacRae from Newtoft.

Pat said: “We have got a good system underway, with each of us cutting a single size, from medium to XXL.

“We have had lots of donations of materials from people from Newtoft and other villages, as well as Market Rasen.”

Chrissie added: “We also want to thank Pete’s Treasure Trove at Fir Park for donating an incredible 150 metres of fabric and to Market Rasen Rotary Club for two donations of £100 towards costs.

“And we are very grateful to the town council for allowing us to use the Festival Hall; we would have struggled to cut things out otherwise.”

Further cutting sessions have been held and items are then passed on to the sewing volunteers.

Chrissie added: “We will make as many sets of scrubs as we can, donations of material and one inch elastic will be gratefully received.”

Material (or quilt covers, table cloths, pillow cases), which must be 100 per cent cotton or 65 per cent cotton and washable at 60 degrees, can be dropped off at 1 Coronation Road in Market Rasen.
