Whilst many businesses have been forced to close, the government has said construction sites can continue to operate, as long as they follow public health guidance on social distancing.

Morgan Sindall Construction is working on the centre in Gainsborough Road.

With the construction entering its final phase, this is the time the labour force would usually be ramped up, but instead it has been greatly reduced.

Sean Bowles, managing director of Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “ We are closely following the latest government advice.

“As a business, we have reduced our presence on site to those who absolutely cannot carry out their work from home, and are ensuring that our operations adhere to the measures laid out in the latest PHE guidance.”

“Our position on this matter is under continuous review.”

As previously reported, work started on the state of the art facility for the local community in May last year.

The new facility will include: a 3G Pitch, multi-use fitness studios, dance studio, a four court sports hall, a 40-station gym, changing facilities and a meeting room/party hosting area.

The new leisure centre is expected to be ready by late May / early June.

Chairman of the Prosperous Communities Committee at West Lindsey District Council, Coun Owen Bierley praised the work of Morgan Sindall Construction for continuing to develop the project, given the current situation.

He said: “I am pleased to see the new leisure centre in Market Rasen is progressing well.

“A few people have contacted us to ask if the work should still go ahead given the concerns about Covid-19.

“We have sought assurance from Morgan Sindall Construction who have assured us that extra measures have been put in place to reduce the number of people on site, whilst they still push ahead with the construction of this fantastic facility.

“I wanted to take this opportunity to thank them all for their continued support on the build of our leisure centre, which will be welcomed by the community once it is open for business.

“We will continue to monitor the situation, given the ever-changing guidance.”
