'Friendly society' branch members in Boston set for fundraiser to support homelessness charity

Members and staff at a Boston branch of a ‘friendly society’ are set to take part in a fundraising drive to support a good cause.

Foresters Friendly Society has officially begun its Annual Charity Appeal - revealing this year’s chosen cause – national homelessness charity Shelter.

Each year, the Society’s President, Bruce Hicks, selects a charity that holds personal significance. For the 2026/27 appeal, Shelter has been chosen in recognition of its critical work tackling housing issues and homelessness across the country.

“Every day millions of people in the UK are being devastated by the housing emergency,” said Mr Hicks. “Thousands of people are homeless on any given night, including families with children.

“By supporting Shelter, we aim to raise vital funds and awareness so Shelter can continue their essential work in ensuring everyone is able to live in a safe and secure home.”

Shelter works across every part of the housing emergency, providing both immediate support and driving long-term change to end homelessness. Its expert advisers help people facing homelessness, eviction, or unsafe housing conditions understand their rights and access the support they need.

Members across the country are expected to take part in a range of fundraising, awareness, and community activities. Funds raised by Foresters members throughout the year will go directly towards supporting individuals, families, and communities affected by the housing emergency in England.

Foresters Friendly Society is encouraging everyone to support this year’s appeal and help create lasting change.

The Boston branch of the society is based in the town’s High Street. To learn more about Shelter, visit www.shelter.org.uk.
