Gainsborough community will join together to remember the fallen this Remembrance Sunday

This year, Remembrance Sunday falls on Sunday, November 8, and Gainsborough Town Council, All Saints Parish Church and the Royal British Legion Gainsborough Branch invite the community to come together to remember and honour those who have fought for our freedom.

A Service of Remembrance will take place at All Saints Parish Church at 10am, followed by a ceremony at the War Memorial at approximately 10.55am.

A Two Minute Silence will be observed at 11am and the Last Post and Reveille will be played before wreaths are laid.

Members of the public and local organisations are warmly invited to take part by laying their own Remembrance symbol or wreath.

The Mayor of Gainsborough, Coun Richard Craig said: "Remembrance Sunday is a time for us, as a community, to come together in gratitude and reflection.

"We honour the courage, sacrifice and service of all those who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy today, and we remember those who continue to serve in defence of peace and liberty.

"As Mayor of Gainsborough, it is a great privilege to lay a wreath of remembrance on behalf of our town. Together, we stand united in remembrance, committed to ensuring that their service, sacrifice and legacy are never forgotten."

A representative from All Saint’s Church in Gainsborough said: "On Remembrance Sunday, everybody is welcome to join us at All Saint’s Church in Gainsborough which will be decorated with displays of handmade poppies for our annual service of remembrance which begins at 10am.

"At the service we shall remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in past and present conflicts and those who came home forever changed by their service.”

A representative from the Royal British Legion Gainsborough branch said: "Please join with us, the Gainsborough Royal British Legion, as we take a moment to remember the sacrifices made, in Service to this Country, in wars and conflicts both past and present.

"At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.”

On Sunday, November 8, Gladstone Street, Parnell Street and Fawcett Street up to Cecil Street will be closed to traffic from approximately 9am until noon.

Parking bays within the affected area will also be suspended during these times.

Residents, visitors and road users are asked to plan their journeys accordingly and allow additional time for any necessary diversions.
