Gainsborough funeral directors launch competition to help celebrate VE Day

A Gainsborough funeral directors has come up with a competition to allow people to take part in VE Day celebrations.

At the start of the year gardeners from Respect Direct Funeral Services planted 678 bulbs in honour of the exact number of service personnel from Gainsborough who bravely gave their lives in both the First and Second World Wars.

These were planted at Morton Corner at the Respect head office land in Morton, near Gainsborough, so that they would bloom for VE Day on May 8.

They also planted 75 special Sir Winston Churchill narcissi at the entrance to their park at Bawtry .

Now the company is inviting people to visit the Morton Corner Respect’s Head Office on Front Street Morton and take a selfie by the flowers with the Respect sign in the background.

They post your photo on Respect’s FaceBook Page, www.facebook.com/respectfunerals, nominate a friend and leave a comment either about a lost relative or about someone you know who is ex Military or currently serving, you can also e-mail your entry to [email protected].

The deadline for entries if Friday, May 8, and the winner will receive a voucher for £250 off of a funeral with Respect Direct Funeral Services for either burial or cremation as well as a lunch at the Forge in Gainsborough with John Burke, the former High Sheriff of Lincolnshire and ancestor of the famous Burkes Peerage, a 100-year-old war veteran and the Mayor of Gainsborough, Coun Keith Panter once the coronavirus pandemic has ended.
