St George's Church of England Community Primary School in Lindsey Close, Gainsborough has been closed since Monday (March 15) and no date has been given as to when it will be re-opening.

In a letter to parents from headteacher, Katie Barry, she said: “Last week, we had no knowledge of anybody in school with any symptoms of Covid, but on Sunday we had our first confirmed cases.

"We contacted the authorities who advised us that because these cases were in multiple bubbles, the best course of action was to close the school to halt the spread of the virus.

"We have since had further confirmed cases, in children and staff. Five bubbles are directly affected so far.

“Those in affected bubbles have been told to self isolate.

“In terms of re-opening school, we will have to do this in stages, once we know more.

"This will depend on any further cases being reported and staffing numbers. However, on Monday, March 22, school remains closed, unfortunately.

“In the meantime, we urge you all to stick to the national lockdown guidelines, please. We are aware of children playing on the park and mixing across households. This is a dangerous illness and some people in our St. George’s family are really quite poorly right now.

"Please be aware this is an ongoing situation and I will be back in touch with return dates as soon as I can.

“In the meantime, I hope you can all stay safe and well.”
