Gainsborough Trinity Foundation unveils state-of-the-art sports facility
A new artificial sports pitch has officially opened at the Roses Sports Ground at The Venue at Roses in Gainsborough.
It means the new pitch is able to increase its community access to more than 2,000 users per week.
An opening ceremony took place attended by Coun Matt Boles, chairman of West Lindsey District Council and trustee of Gainsborough Trinity Foundation, alongside Paul Burkinshaw, chief executive of West Lindsey District Council.
The new Third Generation (3G) pitch managed by Gainsborough Trinity Foundation, has increased the number of weekly users by 600, from 1,500 to a potential 2,100.

This state-of-the-art, multi-use sports facility was funded in part by the Foundation, Gainsborough Town Council, and a £26,000 grant from West Lindsey District Council through the Community Facilities Fund.
Coun Boles said: “2025 has been a testing time for Gainsborough Trinity Foundation. Despite the economic uncertainty and aging facilities, we have continued to provide vital services to Gainsborough and the surrounding areas.
“We are extremely grateful to West Lindsey District Council and Gainsborough Town Council for their funding and support, which has transformed a previously unusable area to an incredible facility that will benefit the whole community.”
Paul Burkinshaw said he was delighted to be attending the opening and was interested in having a tour of the facilities.
He said: “The Gainsborough Trinity Foundation is an essential part of our community, giving people from the local community the opportunity to take part in physical activity.
“Quality sports facilities such as this have a real positive impact on the physical and mental well-being of people and play an important role in bringing people together.
“I’m delighted to see projects like these in our community and to get the chance to see this great new facility in action.”
Gary Precious, Foundation Manager at the Gainsborough Trinity Foundation, said the project is helping to support fitness and well-being in the town.
He said: “The new area will help enhance all of the youth provision that we, as a foundation deliver, which will also make the evening of the youth clubs more vibrant. The links with both partner sporting clubs will increase too, allowing more training and match play provision for all ages.”
Hannah Lane, Communities Officer for Sport and Physical Activity, said: “It’s a great opportunity, not only for the town but to residents in surrounding villages, as well as schools and clubs.
“That’s because this new facility can support community events, not just football, giving it a much wider community benefit.”
As well as Gainsborough Trinity Foundation, The Venue at the Roses Sports Ground is home to Gainsborough Trinity Juniors FC and Gainsborough Rugby Club who use the site multiple times a week.
