Gainsborough's Act of Remembrance service is cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic

Because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic Gainsborough Town Council, like many other organisations, have in the interests of the public health unfortunately had to take the decision, not to hold a public Act of Remembrance on Sunday, November 8, at the Gainsborough War Memorial.

Gainsborough Town Council is still actively supporting Remembrance Sunday and would encourage others to do so and ideas for how you can safely do this from your own home can be found on The Royal British Legion website, www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/remembrance.

All Saints Parish Church are intending to hold a service and Act of Remembrance on Sunday, November 8, and the event will take place within the church and be live streamed on their Facebook page.

Tickets to the service need to be booked in advanced and numbers are limited. Tickets will be available from October 25, to 31, and for more information and how to book tickets please call the Church administrator on 07395 942778.

Gainsborough’s branch of the Royal British Legion will be organising wreath laying and for further information on this call Frank Charlton on 07765 333201.

Small troughs are placed at Gainsborough’s War Memorial which act as a Garden of Remembrance and everyone is invited to lay their own symbol of remembrance in them any time before November 11.

November 11, is Armistice Day, the day that marks the end of the First World War and at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month the Two Minute Silence is observed.

Everyone is encouraged to stop what they are doing at 11am and stand for two minutes.

In other parts of West Lindsey and Bassetlaw, on Sunday, November 8, there will be a service for residents of Misterton, West Stockwith, Gringley, Beckingham, and Clayworth at Clayworth Parish Church at 9.15am, followed by a short Act of Remembrance at Misterton Parish Church at 10.45am. Seating is limited under coronavirus restrictions, and singing is not permitted.
