Gainsborough's DW Fitness First gym closed as company goes into administration

A Gainsborough gym has closed its door after its company went into administration.

DW Sports announced it was restructuring its gym and retail portfolio, and the firm has appointed administrators and as a result of this the Gainsborough gym is now closed.

DW Sports is currently communicating with its members across the UK to inform them of the next steps relating to their membership.

It is the company’s intention to work with the administrators to save as many gym sites as possible.

Like many retailers, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and trends in consumer online spending habits the whole DW Sports Retail estate has been reviewed and all DW Sports retail stores in the UK will also close.

Martin Long, group CEO, said: “This has clearly been a very difficult decision for the business, especially in Gainsborough where we have become a real part of the sporting community and we thank the staff and our members for the many years we have enjoyed in the area.”

DW Fitness First in Marshall’s Yard, Gainsborough, said goodye to its members on August 4.

A statement on the gym’s Facebook page said: “To our members, thank you for 13 years of support, laughter and banter. We will miss you all.

"Thank you for the years of dedication and hard work you’ve put in to make the club the best place it can be.

"It is with a heavy heart we are leaving you all.

"Good luck with your training, stay healthy, stay focused, stay active.”

And members also expressed their sadness about the closure on the gym’s Facebook page.

Helen Hodgkinson said: “Gutted for you guys, wishing you all the best and hope you can find work elsewhere or another company will take it over, such sad times.”

Sue Cachart said: “I am going miss you all. Fantastic staff and a great atmosphere.

"Wish all the staff the best and hope life has happier things to come.

“I hope this gym gets a new owner soon.”

Simon Phillips said: “Gutted you’re leaving, been with you since the day it opened.

"All the best to you all.”
