Despite the Government’s announcement outdoor playgrounds could re-open from July 4 if it is safe to do so, Horncastle Town Council’s estates management committee has taken the decision to keep the town’s three play areas – Prospect Street, Coronation Walk and Centurion Park – closed.

The council says at the current time safety of the equipment cannot be guaranteed and it does not have the resources to continually clean the equipment to help prevent coronavirus transmission.

Coun Mark Everton, estates management committee chairman said: “We are aware that this decision will be disappointing for young children and parents, but we do not feel that we can put sufficient measures in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus and ensure the safety of the children using the play areas.”

The town council says it will continually monitor the guidance from government and will reopen the play areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
