Her great-grandfather was killed in one of the battles.

This Sunday, though, she will be able to pay a special tribute in a very special place.

Gill is one of 10,000 members of the public who have been selected to take part in the ‘People’s Procession’ on The Mall in London.

The procession will pass the Cenotaph to pay their respects and help express the nation’s thanks to the generation that served - and those that never returned.

Gill, who runs fitness classes in the Woodhall Spa area, says she is proud to be taking part.

She said: “I put my name forward in the ballot for a place but I never thought I would get chosen.

“People were chosen at random. I was one of the lucky ones. I can’t wait for Sunday.

“It promises to be a very special day and I know my great-grandfather would be proud of me. I’ll be able to thank him for the sacrifice he and so many others made.”

Gill has been a member of the Woodhall Spa branch of the RBL for several years, and this year is in charge of their Poppy Appeal.

The Mall will again see thousands of veterans parade past The Queen and other dignitaries including the Prime Minister and the Mayor of London.
