Have your say in the Louth Cycle Survey 2021

The newly-formed Louth Cycle Forum has launched a survey to find out more about the transport needs of those in our area, in order to encourage cycling locally and explore the barriers that may stand in the way.

Speaking on behalf of the Forum, Alison Spittles told the Leader: “When it comes to getting about in Louth town and the surrounding area, many of us have ideas on what works and what doesn’t. Our transport needs are very varied.

“Cycling can be a solution for some, and brings many recognised benefits for our physical and mental wellbeing, as well as for the environment.

“But how do we meet the needs of different road users and make transport efficient, healthier and safer for everyone?

“In Louth and across the country from the start of the Covid pandemic last year, more people were getting on bicycles and enjoying a ride. This was perhaps in part because people felt safer at a time when roads were quieter.

“A group of local people who cycle have recently put their heads together (socially distanced of course!) and formed Louth Cycle Forum.

“Our aim is to encourage cycling locally and explore the barriers to cycling. To do so, we want to consult the local community and our councillors and to find ways to remove or reduce those barriers.”

Alison continued: “Government funding, announced in lockdown last year, is coming through to Lincolnshire County Council and should help to improve provision for cyclists. To find out about people’s views locally on what might help, Louth Cycle Forum has organised the Louth Cycle Survey 2021.

“(We want) to work with the public and councillors to develop a cycling strategy for Louth which could have benefits for all of us however we travel.

“The survey results would be used in this process. So, however you travel, and even if you don’t, have your say and complete the survey!

“Please spread the word to friends, family and colleagues. We also welcome the views of visitors who have connections with Louth and district.”
