Have your say on proposed planning application requirements in West Lindsey

A four-week consultation is now underway by three councils, including West Lindsey, relating to the documentation that’s needed for new planning applications.

The review by the City of Lincoln Council, North Kesteven District Council and West Lindsey District Council, as part of a coordinated Central Lincolnshire approach, relates to proposed updates to their Local Validation Lists for planning applications.

The consultation runs until June 7.

Local Validation Lists explain what additional information may be needed, alongside national requirements, before a planning application can be accepted as complete and processed efficiently. The review is required by national planning policy and helps ensure the lists remain up to date, proportionate and aligned with the adopted Central Lincolnshire Local Plan and current government guidance.

Coun Richard Wright, leader of North Kesteven District Council and vice chairman of the Central Lincolnshire joint strategic planning committee, said: “We want to make sure our planning application requirements are clear, up to date and proportionate, so that applicants know exactly what information is needed from the outset.

“This consultation is an opportunity for residents, agents and developers to help shape those requirements and ensure the process works as effectively as possible for everyone involved.”

Proposed changes include clearer guidance on information requirements; better signposting to relevant planning documents on Section 106 payments and energy statements; and new submission requirements – eg an Affordable Housing Statement, or an management plan for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) applications.

The proposed lists have not yet been adopted, and the current validation lists will continue to apply during the consultation period.

Once the consultation closes, all comments received will be reviewed before any updated lists are formally approved and brought into use.
