Horncastle Support team ‘blown away’ by public response

Volunteers behind the recently launched Horncastle Support Team say they have been blown away by the ‘fantastic response’ from two residents and businesses.

The ‘team’ is essentially a ‘one-stop shop’ – or in this case, website - for information on all the key organisations working to combat the Covid pandemic.

The project, backed by the town council, offers a new free online directory where organisations can list how they can help residents in Horncastle and surrounding villages.

Volunteers were on a stall at the town’s market last Thursday at the start of a marketing campaign.

They also visited local businesses to ask them to sign up to the listings.

A spokeswoman said: “The response we’ve had has been really positive– both from the public and the businesses.

“It’s very encouraging. Hopefully more and more people will use the directory.”

The directory is available to charities, volunteer groups and organisations that can offer support, advice and information.

Anyone wanting to be included should state what service they can provide such as advice and guidance, listening and befriending or practical and emotional support.

Businesses can indicate what services they offer, including: home delivery; pre-ordering and collection; private appointments; Covid safe facilities.

The team will produce regular updates and an email newsletter and will also work closely with the Horncastle News.

News Content Editor John Fieldhouse said: “I think the Support Team is a tremendous idea and we are happy to support it in any way we can.”

County Councillor Bill Aron visited the market stall last Thursday and praised volunteers, saying they were performing a vital role.
