Horncastle Youth Centre trustees want to be part of ‘Youth Zone’ scheme

A working group fighting to save Horncastle’s Youth Centre Working Group say it welcomes calls for the creation of a ‘Youth Zone’ in the town, incorporating the area around Coronation Walk, Cagthorpe, the swimming pool and playing fields.

In a statement, a spokesman for trustees of the group said: “Horncastle includes areas which are in the top 10 per cent of the index for child deprivation in England. Our town needs more opportunities for young people to meet safely indoors, as well as taking part in exercise and outdoor activities.

“We would be excited to be a part of any such programme which helped integrate both kinds of provision.”

The statement goes on to say the youth centre sits easily within the proposed ‘Zone’ and with its unique facilities is ideally placed to provide a venue for young people to meet through bad weather, in winter, and after dark.

The statement adds: “ As shown by our business plan, the centre remains fit for purpose, and can be reopened quickly and at a relatively low cost.

“Bringing together all youth facilities under a single scheme, including a refurbished and modernised youth centre, would be a great way to increase the indoor and outdoor opportunities available to Horncastle’s young people, and encourage greater co-operation between the different groups catering to their leisure needs. This can only be good for our community.”
