Hundreds of Santas spotted hot-footing it through Boston

Organisers say 35 marshals helped see the runners and walkers safely round the course, which starts in Central Park and ends in Boston Market Place.

And they are hopeful of getting closer to the maximum number of 500 turning out for the event next year, with a date already earmarked.

This year winners were awarded a medal featuring Boston Stump, with mince pies and goodie bags at the end for all competitors in the 5km event, which competitors could either run, jog or walk if they preferred.

Sarah Burton of Boston Community Runners officially started the event, which saw a sea of red engulf parts of Central Park as the Santa’s pounded the paths.

All money raised will be split between Boston Woods Trust and St Barnabas Hospice, with cash currently being counted up so a total can be worked out.

“This was our second year and we are learning and growing. The date has already been set for 13 December 2020,” said Sarah. “Again, we are working with the events team from Boston Borough Council so that it will coincide with the Festive Market.”

She said she wanted to thank Energie Fitness for sponsoring the medal this year and Mason Brothers Transport for sponsoring the Goody Bag. The Mince Pies were donated by South Lincs Foodservice and Jakemans Confectionary provided sweets.

“I'd also like to thank Victoria Holmes and the V-Fitness team for the warm up and commentary and to Kristina Willoughby and the events team at Boston Borough Council for all their support and finally to all the marshals who gave their time to give everyone a great morning out,” said Sarah.

“They looked great in their blue hi-viz and blue Santa hats and without them we could not have made this the friendly fun event it was.

“To see the smiles on everyone’s faces was great for Boston. It was a great day and everyone was saying what a fantastic time they'd had. Runners and marshals alike.”
