Investigation hopes to get to the bottom of drainage issues in Woodhall Spa

Drainage engineers for Lincolnshire County Council will be taking an in-depth look at many of the village’s drains, culverts and gullies over the coming weeks.

The survey will focus on the south and east of the village, including around Tor-O-Moor Road, Witham Road and Albany Road, where there have been ongoing issues with surface-water flooding during periods of wet weather

From Wednesday, April 28, teams will be lifting manhole covers and using cameras to assess the conditions of the drains.

Any blockages found can be cleared away, and if any pipes need minor repairs they can hopefully be sorted as part of the works.

The investigation is expected to last three to four weeks.

Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways at Lincolnshire County Council said: “With this survey, we’re hoping to not only get to the bottom of the drainage issues in this area of Woodhall Spa, but hopefully, by jetting and repairing as we go along, we should be able to return the original capacity back to the system.

“Once the investigation is complete, we’ll have a better idea of what, if any, other works would help to alleviate flooding problems further, and we can start to develop a plan for those.”

There will be very little impact on residents and businesses, as no roads will be closed and work in busier areas will be carried out early in the mornings or later in the evenings.

Investigators will use stop/go boards to control traffic in some areas as necessary.

Karen continued: “We’ve been keen to minimise any disruption caused when planning this investigation, and most residents probably won’t notice that all this work is taking place, but hopefully it will start to really improve Woodhall Spa’s drainage.”
