'It's about opening doors': Explore careers  in film, television and games at workshop

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind a television camera?

Young people and adults in Skegness are being invited to explore careers in the film, television and games industries, as the National Film and Television School (NFTS) brings a free outreach event to Skegness this month.

The event is part of the NFTS’s Access NFTS programme, which aims to raise awareness of the wide range of careers available behind the camera — from production and sound to visual effects, editing and games development.

Delivered by the NFTS outreach team, the session will include film screenings, Q&A discussions and hands-on practical workshops, all designed to give attendees an insight into creative career pathways that are often less visible to those outside major cities.

The event is open to young people aged 16 and over, as well as adults who are interested in working behind the scenes in film, TV or games – and is completely free to attend.

Umberto, Outreach Assistant at the National Film and Television School, said the aim of the programme is to make creative industry opportunities accessible to everyone, regardless of background or location.

“Access NFTS is about opening doors and showing people the huge variety of roles that exist behind the camera,” he said. “We want to reach people who may not have previously considered a career in the creative industries, or who feel those opportunities are out of reach.”

As the event date approaches, organisers are keen to ensure local people are aware of the opportunity and are encouraging community organisations and local networks to help spread the word.

The event takes place at the Store House in Skegness on Wednesday, January 28. For details visit www.nfts.co.uk/events.
