This year, St Mary’s Church - and the local community - has missed out on its very popular Tree Festival, and the Carol Services are being scaled back or produced online.

However, the Advent Trail through the town will lead participants to a Nativity scene in the St Mary’s churchyard.

Individuals or family groups are invited to take part in the trail.

Twenty-four shops and businesses in the town have put up words relating to Advent in their windows.

Pick up a sheet from the back of St Mary’s Church , which gives guidance on what to do, and then take your tour around the town collecting all the words on display.

The completed forms can then be placed in the box at the back of St Mary’s.

There will be a prize for the chosen entry.

The Rev Charles Patrick said: “Alongside the trail, the staff and students from Banovallum School have created a poignant Nativity Scene for St. Mary’s Churchyard.

“This is freely open to all to enjoy and will remain up until The Epiphany on January 6.”

Details of services at St Mary’s over the Christmas period can be found on the church website - www.southwoldsgroup.org.uk/churches/horncastle

There is also information on the Church Facebook site.

At the current time, there is no parking in the churchyard to ensure there is space for a socially distanced queue for those waiting to enter church.

Stewards will be on duty to guide people to their seats, which must be prebooked.
