Kaitlin Mapplethorpe will be taking part in a London to Paris cycle challenge in June to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign.

The event will see the 19-year-old student cycle the 200-mile route in just three days.

And while this is the first time she has undertaken such a mammoth event, it isn’t the distance Kaitlin finds daunting.

“I am more daunted by raising the money than doing the ride - I just don’t want to let them down,” said Kaitlin.

The target Kaitlin has set herself is £950 and her total so far is almost £200.

“My family and friends have been very kind in supporting me and I have a couple of events planned too, including a barbecue and acoustic night at university.”

And she is also hoping her former school may help her out.

“I am going to speak to Caistor Grammar School and see if they would maybe have a non-uniform day to help me,” added Kaitlin.

But as well as raising the money, Kaitlin has to look at training for the challenge, which involve cycling up to 75 miles each day.

And to help her in this task, she has enlisted her fellow university rugby team player Zoe Woodhouse.

“I have run the Great North Run before, but nothing on the scale of this challenge, so definitely have to do plenty of training,” added Kaitlin.

“The charity is one very close to my heart and it would be incredible to raise £1,000 or more - just think how much research that would fund.”
