The lights will run the length of Queen Street, from the market place to the railway bridge.

There will also be bright light displays in Union Street, beyond the bridge and in the market place to help raise spirits of residents and visitors.

The initiative is being led by Market Rasen Town Partnership which has brought many local organisations together.

Leading the way is Councillor Stephen Bunney.

He said: “ The arrival of the lights is the next stage of completing out mission.

“It is important, after everything we have been through in 2020 to bring some hope by Lighting Up Rasen for Christmas.

“We thank all the groups and individuals who made donations towards buying the lights.”

The lights are just one part of plans to bring Christmas to life in town. Hhowever, with the country currently in lockdown and restrictions unknown after December 2 all current plans are subject to change.

Over the coming weeks ,the Rasen Mail will be highlighting the festive plans.

This week, we look at the Advent Window event and nominations for Christmas boxes.

Market Rasen’s Living Advent Calendar has become a worldwide celebration, and Market Rasen Action Group (MRAG) thought Rasen residents would like to take part too.

Group chairman Julie Lambie said: “We need 24 houses to take part; we have got five confirmed so far.

“If you are someone who likes to push the boat out at Christmas, trim up your home and garden with lots of sparkling lights,we want to hear from you.”

Residents must live in Market Rasen and the home needs to be visible from the roadside or public path so visitors can easily see the Christmas display.

Each property would be allocated a day in December (1-24) for visitors to see your Christmas displays, so the property address will need to be made public.

The addresses will be kept a secret until the allocated day.

Julie said: “Let’s spread some joy and Christmas cheer around the town.

“Christmas may be different this year but we can still all unite and make it as best as we can.”
