Lincolnshire author Karen writes her own sequel to Pride and Prejudice after others failed to live up to expectations

An author from the Louth area has written a novel as an alternative sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Karen P Henderson says she created the book after finding that none of the existing sequels to the classic novel lived up to her expectations

So the first-time author from Skidbrooke put pen to paper and created her own story to carry on the romantic tale.

Titled Pemberley and Prospects – the book catches up with some of the main characters – including Lizzy and Mr Darcy, who have since settled into married life.

It is described as “an engaging and delightful Regency romance, perfect for those who wondered what happened next.”

Recalling the origin of her book idea, Karen says she spent Christmas 2024 “binge watching” the TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice – but was later disappointed with the sequels she read.

“I was unhappy with the sequels,” she comments, “And with a few definite ideas of what I wanted to have happened, I decided to see if I could write my own. It turned out that I could.”

Karen says she has now been “bitten by the writing bug” and is already working on her second and third novels. One is a follow-up to Pemberley and Prospects, and the other is a contemporary romance set in rural Lincolnshire.

"It's all been a bit of a rollercoaster to be honest,” she adds. “I never thought I'd be publishing my first novel at the age of 68!”

The book is expected to be available in ebook and paperback formats from Amazon in the coming weeks.
