This year, 2020, is a special year for Lincolnshire charity LIVES, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Every year, an army of Community First Responders attend 999 medical emergencies, saving the lives of hundreds of people across Lincolnshire.

The charity has come a long way from where it all began 50 years ago, with its two founding doctors. However, the one thing that hasn’t changed is the need to source funding to ensure responders are able to be there when medical emergency occurs, and they are determined be here for the next 50 years.

This year for the first time, they are asking for supporters to sign up for an extraordinary challenge to celebrate reaching their landmark birthday.

LIVES have teamed up with Sleaford-based company Travel and Trek to organise their first overseas challenge, The Snow Shoe.

The expedition will take place in March 2021 and will last for five days, taking supporters deep into the heart of Hossa National Park, in Finland.

Dr David Cookson, from LIVES, said: “Over the years I’ve volunteered my time as a doctor for LIVES and often get to meet our fundraisers and volunteers.

“I’ m genuinely taken aback at the effort people go to, to support this wonderful charity.

“The Snow Shoe looks an amazing trek and is the perfect opportunity to raise money and be part of something special.

“I am now a clinical lead for the new community emergency medical service at LIVES and I could not be more grateful to the people of Lincolnshire who take on these extraordinary challenges, to ensure we can be there when they need us.”
