Louth Run For Life raises £35,000 this year - and almost hits £500,000 in total

The organisers behind ‘Louth Run For Life’ have revealed that this year’s fundraising has taken the campaign’s 15-year running total to within touching distance of half a million pounds - despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic this year.

This year marked the 15th year since the popular annual campaign was started, with the two main fundraising events being the big charity run every summer, and the annual charity ball.

However, this year, both events had to be cancelled, and the summer run ‘went virtual’, with individuals runners invited to pay an entry fee and raise sponsorship donations and run five kilometres before the end of September.

The founder and one of the main organisers of Louth Run For Life, Simon West, revealed last week that this year’s fundraising total was £35,000.

When added to the total amount raised over the last fifteen years, this brought the figure to a brilliant £495,000.

Speaking on BBC Radio Lincolnshire last week, Simon praised the amazing volunteers, including Pete Goy who cycled 400 miles in a 24 hour ride, and Simon Greenfield who ran a marathon through the Wolds.

Simon heaped praise on the volunteers, saying: “The majority of the people on the committee are in full time employment, so it is many hours out of their own time. These people are truly amazing.”

Next year’s main event will be launched in Louth on February 6, with the run pencilled in to take place on June 27 if restrictions allow.
