Lyn Follows her father's footsteps for Queen's honour
Working as a civil servant at Air Cadets headquarters at RAF Cranwell for 19 years, Lyn leads a small team of eight to oversee an estate of more than 1,400 buildings used to accommodate and support the 58,000 cadets and adult volunteers involved in the RAF Air Cadets.
She has been awarded the honour for her services to the cadets.
Lyn said: “Supporting cadets and adult volunteers through the provision of suitable accommodation is a very rewarding task. I am fortunate that my role enables me to meet volunteers and cadets regularly.
“I am repeatedly impressed by the huge effort and commitment I see in the people I meet and I am pleased to be able to support them where I can.
“I could not achieve the considerable milestones and objectives that come with the post without the support of an excellent team, who consistently provide me with outstanding office help and background support, which is particularly welcome during my many hours on the road attending meetings and site visits to secure ACO accommodation.
“On a personal note I am unbelievably proud to have received an MBE and see this very much as a reflection of all the hard work done by HQ Air Cadets permanent staff to support the cadets and adult volunteers.
“I was immensely proud to share my news with my 85-year-old father who himself received an MBE 40 years ago in the Queen’s Birthday Awards.”
