Martin Hedley is taking part in a 24 hour bike ride from Newcastle to London in hope of raising as much cash as possible for the charity.

Martin, a back care advisor at Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS), is taking on the challenge from 9am on Saturday, August 20 arriving in London the following morning.

Speaking about the challenge, Martin said: “The Macmillan nurses who cared for my late father-in-law were absolutely fantastic. They cared not only for him but for the rest of the family too in his last few weeks with his battle against cancer.

“The work they do is phenomenal and their support is unwavering.

“I thought Ride24 would be the perfect opportunity for me to raise money and awareness of the fantastic work they do. I originally come from up north, Cullercoats.

“The ride will see me travelling from Newcastle through Lincolnshire including Gainsborough, Lincoln, Sleaford then down to London.”

Martin’s wife will be waiting for him in London and he will thankfully be getting a coach back up north.

Martin is based at Grantham Health Clinic and has started his training, but he says he enjoys cycling as it gives him a sense of freedom.

He hasn’t set a fundraising target but would gratefully receive any donation large or small.
