Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the meeting took place via video call.

Last year, Coun Brookes served as Coun Bridges’ vice chairman, so the pair are exchanging roles.

Coun Brookes lives in Swineshead and represents Boston Rural.

He has served with the authority for 11 years.

The appointment makes him the 35th chairman in the council’s history.

He has been blown away by the people of Lincolnshire’s response to the virus.

Coun Brookes said: “Over the past few months, it has been amazing to see the work of the county’s key workers, carers, community groups and individuals.

“They have worked so hard to ensure that those who need help get the support they need during these times. There has been a real sense of community spirit.

“In my year as chairman, I would like to support the recovery from Covid-19 and to see Lincolnshire businesses and community groups go from strength to strength.”
