New era for much-loved Skegness care home after nearly 40 years of family ownership

A long-established family-run care home in Skegness has changed hands for the first time since the 1980s.

Syne Hills Care Home, which has been part of the town’s care community for more than 35 years, has been sold by owners Jean and Christopher Sweeney, who have dedicated almost four decades to running the residential home and supporting generations of local families.

Set in peaceful grounds on Syne Avenue and registered for 30 residents, the home is known for its warm, homely atmosphere and strong family ethos.

The Sweeneys took over Syne Hills in 1987 and have worked alongside their children and long-serving staff to build the reputation it holds today.

Announcing the sale, the family admitted the decision had been an emotional one.

“After 38 years of dedication to our residents, staff and families, this has been not only a business decision, but a deeply personal one,” they said. “Ensuring the future of what we have nurtured and finding the right people to take it forward has always been our priority.

"We feel extremely fortunate to have found new owners who share our values and will continue to deliver the highest standards of care.”

The home has been purchased by JKS Care Ltd, new entrants to the local care sector, following a confidential sale handled by Christie & Co.

Kanagasingam Kannan, co-owner of JKS Care Ltd, said the team was “delighted” to take over such a well-regarded home. “Syne Hills has clearly benefited from strong leadership and a dedicated team,” he said. “We are committed to honouring that legacy and ensuring residents and their families continue to receive the highest standard of care.”

Christie & Co business agent Rosie Turner, who oversaw the sale, said interest in the property had been “incredible” thanks to its strong reputation. “I was delighted to help the family find the right buyers to continue their legacy,” she said.

The sale price has not been disclosed, but for the Sweeney family it marks the start of a new chapter — and the continuation of a much-valued care home in Skegness.
