New Gainsborough Alley Cats Project looking for public support

LEAP, a social housing charity based in Lincoln and Gainsborough, has launched the Alley Cats Project, a fun, engaging and inclusive community upcycling project.

LEAP’s Gainsborough base is at the HATS Community Hub in the heart of Gainsborough's south west ward which is a deprived area and has numerous ten foot alleyways attracting anti-social behavior and making residents feel unsafe – which is where the Alley Cats Project comes in.

Heidi De Wolf, business development manager at LEAP, said: “ The project will aim to engage local residents into organised activities and workshops, such as litter-picking and tidying up the alley ways before we engage with local artists to run outdoor art, crafting and upcycling workshops, creating decorative items out of waste materials to make the alley ways into cleaner, friendlier and more social spaces, valued, enjoyed and owned by local residents.

"As well as aiming to restore community pride and ownership, we know from our research that the increase of positive uses of the alley ways will help to discourage anti-social and criminal activities.

To help the project get off the ground, the charity is looking for donations from the public to get work started and breathing some love back into the area.
