The project involved Horncastle Playing Fields (Management) Limited, Horncastle Hockey Club and Banovallum School (part of the Horncastle Education Trust).

The previous 30-year-old fittings, several of which had suffered damage, were in desperate need of refurbishment.

The new LED lights use significantly less energy than their predecessors while casting much brighter light for evening sessions.

LEDs also cause less excessive light to be released and have a much shorter ‘warm up’ time.

A spokesman said: “This is a wonderful example of the town community banding together to improve and safeguard facilities for team sports to continue in Horncastle. Horncastle Playing Fields (Management) Limited would like to thank Horncastle Education Trust for supporting this project.

“Additional thanks go to Balcan Lighting Supplies, PCH Electrical for handling the refurbishment, as well others who helped make the project possible.”

Horncastle’s mayor Coun Fiona Martin performed the official switch on and the ceremony was followed by ‘Hockey Club Day’ for Horncastle players to celebrate the resumption of training/match-play and featured intra-club matches.
