New Rasen business turns up the heat

The midst of a pandemic may not seem like a natural time to start a new business - but that hasn’t stopped two local men from doing just that.

Work colleagues and friends Dan Cole from Market Rasen and Colin Carter-Mumby,from Welton, have 40 years’ experience between them working for British Gas.

With well-publicised changes to working practices at the company, the pair agreed it was ‘not the job they signed up to’.

So, they took the plunge and launched EHS (Expert Heating Services).

Dan said: “It is something we used to talk about over the barbecue and a few beers, as you do, but like many people the pandemic has made us refocus and so we decided that now was the time.

“British Gas has been a good company to work for over the years but with changes coming in, like it does with all big companies, we weren’t getting the same enjoyment out of the job as we were.

“It has been a big investment to set up our own business but we are all set up now and looking to serve our local community.”

And, it is that community side of things both Dan and Colin are passionate about.

Dan continued: “We are both very keen on good old fashioned service.

“We want to offer the kind of service people were getting say 15 years ago.

“We are a local firm doing local jobs - just helping each other out, doing a good, honest job for a fair price.

“We know people trust local businesses, as they can put a face to the company, and that is a big thing.

“It is really satisfying when you can go to the home of a little old lady and get her heating working again.

“That is job satisfaction.”

Dan is no stranger to serving his local community.

He has served as a leader for the town’s scout group for the past three years and was the liaison between Market Rasen Town partnership and British Gas last year through their food bank support scheme.

Dan added: “It has been quite funny, as some times I turn up and people don’t know my name, but when they see me they say ‘oh, its Dan the scout man’.

“Now they will be knowing me as Dan the gas (and general heating) man!”
