No ‘codding!’ Archer’s is the ‘plaice’ to be for Donny Osmond

Pop legend Donny Osmond has dined in many of the world’s top restaurants.

However, when it comes to fish and chips, the American
superstar knows exactly where his bread is buttered....in none other than Woodhall Spa!

According to Donny, the family-owned Archers fish and chip show is the best in the business.

One glimpse of their famous haddock and chips (with mushy peas of course) is enough to make his mouth water.

The surprise is Donny has never actually stepped through the front door of Archers.

In fact, he’s never set foot in Woodhall Spa.

All that, though, could change.

Thanks to a successful business link-up, Donny has become a good friend of Woodhall resident Rob Ayling.

Rob, who is also a local parish councillor, is a regular customer at Archers...even though he’s vegetarian.

He takes up the story.

“The other day, I was about to step into the shop when my mobile rang and it was Donny.

“He asked how I was and what I was doing.

“I told him I was just about to get some fish and chips and he replied: ’Ohh, fish and chips are my favourite.’

“I told him these were the best in Lincolnshire so he replied: ‘Send me some over ASAP.’

“For a split second, I thought I might have to hire a plane because Donny lives in Utah in America.

“The problem is I think the chips would have been cold by the time the plane landed.

“The batter would certainly have gone soggy!

“So, I got the girls in the shop to make up a portion of fish and chips, took a photo on my phone and pinged it straight to Donny.

“He messaged me within 10 seconds saying that they looked the best and tastiest fish and chips he’d ever seen.

“I showed the girls in the shop and they couldn’t believe it.

“Donny Osmond...their No.1 fan.

“Some of them are just about old enough to remember his hits!”

Donny pressed Rob into promising that the next time he came to England, he would visit Archers.

Rob added: “The crazy thing is Donny is currently performing in Vegas and just a couple of hundred yards away is a ‘chippy’ owned by Gordon Ramsay.

“Donny still reckons Archers are best!”

Archers had been in the same family since 1936.

The business is currently owned by John Archer and run by his daughters Nicola Bedford and Sally Burnett.

Nicola said: “It’s not bad when you tell people our No.1 one fan is Donny Osmond.

“It’s great to hear what he thinks about our fish and chips and we’re looking forward to Rob bringing him in to the shop.

“Am I a Donny fan? Err, you’d better tell everyone yes!

Meanwhile, Donny might not be the only star name set to visit Archers as Rob also works with other well known stars like David Essex, Rick Wakeman, Michael Ball and Daniel O’Donnell.

You could even say they’d make a star-studded guest list at any fish supper...when the chips are down!

Meanwhile, there’s just one problem for Rob and Donny.

In America, apparently ‘chippy’ is a term for...well, let’s just say certain ladies of the night!
