Part of Eastgate closed due to ‘risk of masonry falling from building’

Part of Eastgate has been closed to traffic and pedestrians this afternoon (Thursday) due to the “risk of masonry falling from the building”, according to Lincolnshire County Council.

A tweet from the county council’s highways department this afternoon stated: “Eastgate in Louth is closed around the town hall building due to the risk of masonry falling from the building. A local diversion is in place. Police and the building’s owner are aware.”

According to the AA Route Planner, the area known as Little Eastgate (between St James’ Church and Ye Olde Whyte Swanne pub) remains closed this evening.

Lincolnshire County Council later clarified that the road closure applies to both vehicles and pedestrians.

They added: “We have had reports of people continuing to walk around the closure signs - please avoid the area.”
